New approaches in Medium Scale Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances modelling

چکیده
The Medium Scale Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances (MSTIDs) are the most frequent wave signatures in the ionosphere, with amplitudes up to several TECUs, periods from several hundreds to one-two thousands of seconds, and propagation velocities from 50 to +300 m/s, mainly equator-eastward in winter/fall seasons, and westward in summer/spring seasons (M. Hernandez-Pajares et al., Radio Science, doi:10.1029/2011RS004951, 2012). Although their amplitude in not very important in relative terms, compared with the typical background electron content, MSTID’s undulatory nature makes them likely the main non-linear error affecting precise GNSS processing, for instance in Wide Area RTK or either RTK techniques.

Detection and Modeling of Medium-Scale Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances in Iran Region
Ionosphere layer variations are divided into regular and irregular. Regular changes can be considered as daily changes, changes depending on latitude and changes due to solar activity. Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances (TID) is one of the irregular changes of ionosphere which categorized in small, medium and large scales. Medium-scale Travelling Ionospheric Disturbance (MSTID) which are propa...
متن کاملThe Performance of Virtual Reference Stations in Active Geodetic GPS-networks under Solar Maximum Conditions
In order to use fast static or real-time kinematic (RTK) cm-accurate positioning over larger distances, active GPS reference receiver networks have been established in parts of Germany with station distances of 30 to 50 km. Within these networks, the distance dependent error sources, like ionospheric and tropospheric refraction and broadcast orbit errors, are modelled satellite-by-satellite and...
متن کاملSome aspects of large-scale travelling ionospheric disturbances which originate at conjugate locations in auroral zones, cross the equator and sometimes encircle the earth
The occurrence of large-scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (LS-TIDs) has been examined. Initially some literature on their generation is considered. Travel during daylight hours and also paths which involve propagation paths towards the poles are illustrated by a few examples from the literature. A daytime ionogram recording of an LSTID is presented and discussed as are nighttime ionogra...
متن کاملSolar wind Alfvén waves: a source of pulsed ionospheric convection and atmospheric gravity waves
A case study of medium-scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) that are correlated with solar wind Alfvén waves is presented. The HF radar groundscatter signatures of TIDs caused by atmospheric gravity waves with periods of 20–40 min are traced to a source at high latitudes, namely pulsed ionospheric flows (PIFs) due to bursts in the convection electric field and/or the associated iono...
متن کاملEfficient Usage of Dense GNSS Networks in Central Europe for the Visualization and Investigation of Ionospheric TEC Variations
The technique of the orthogonal projection of ionosphere electronic content variations for mapping total electron content (TEC) allows us to visualize ionospheric irregularities. For the reconstruction of global ionospheric characteristics, numerous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers located in different regions of the Earth are used as sensors. We used dense GNSS networks in c...
